Children’s immune system is fragile, and they often got coughs, colds, or fever. Most of the infections are very common in children due to a weakened immune system, but cold is the most common. When babies have a fever, their body temperature rises from an average body temperature of about 37.8C (100F).
Parents usually come to know that their babies have an uproar when they feel that their babies or toddler body become so warm. But you can quickly examine that your toddler has a fever by measuring their body temperature with the help of a thermometer. When you check the temperature of your baby or toddler, if the baby’s temperature is average, there is no problem. But if your toddler’s body temperature is above 101.5 and 102 degrees F, then your child must have a fever or cold. This time you should go to the hospital or call a baby doctor or nurse.
How fever Occur in Your Toddler Body:-
Fever usually occurs in your toddler body when the baby’s body temperature reaches above average body temperature, 37.5 C or 100 F. The baby’s body temperature increases to kill the bacteria or viruses which attach to your toddler’s body. Fever is the body’s natural way of defending your baby or toddler’s body from harmful invaders such as viruses and bacteria. When the baby’s body temperature increases, many of these viruses and bacteria cannot survive at hot body temperature caused by fever. In this way, fever occurs in your toddler body.
High body temperature also signals infection-fighting cells of a baby’s immune system such as phagocytes, neutrophils, and lymphocytes, which help defend and fight against the disease. The degree of temperature increases doest necessary correspond to the severity of the baby’s illness. The fever response is more significant in childern than in adults. That is why babies are most commonly affected by fever.
The function of cold (fever):-
The three functions of fever are given below:
- To stimulate the baby immune system
- To create an inhospitable environment for invading organisms such as viruses and bacteria to enter your baby or toddler’s body.
- The cold again turns up the heat so high enough that the invading microorganisms can’t survive at this temperature.
Sign and Symptoms of Cold:-
There are many signs and symptoms which appear on your toddler when your toddler has a common cold. The first symptoms of cold, which appear in babies, are when your baby knight nose running and when sneezing and throat problems occur in your toddler. Other symptoms are dry cough, watering nose, watery eyes, mild fever, sore or scratchy throat, fatigue, crankiness. The most common sign and symptoms of cold are when your toddler glands are swollen. Other signs and symptoms are fatigue, irritability, congestion, and stuffiness, etc.
Causes of Cold:-
There are many causes of cold, but the primary reason for cold in children is viruses. These viruses are present in our environment, but no one can see them with the naked eye. These viruses enter the body of children through the nose or mouth. As mentioned earlier, the baby’s immune system is fragile, so these viruses start an infection in babies in which influenza is most commonly occurs in babies. There are about two hundred viruses that cause cold in babies.
Cold also occurs in babies due to seasonal or environmental factors. The babies are infected by cold, mainly in the winter season. In winter, the air is dry, and the air contains no moisture as compared to the air which is blowing in summer, which contains moisture. So this dry air causes cold when your babies breathe in this dry air. Smoking is also another cause of cold in your toddler. If somebody is smoking in your home or surrounding environment and your toddler breath in this polluted air, it causes cold in your baby or toddler.
How parents recognize that his/her toddler got infected from cold:-
Some parents come to know that their babies are infected from cold when they feel that their toddler body temperature increases. And when they measure temperature with a thermometer and if the thermometer shows a temperature above 101.5 F or 102 F, they confirm that their toddler got infected from cold. Other symptoms and signs indicate that your toddler got infected from a cold if you see that your toddler has influenza(flu) or any other infection. Then your toddler must be infected from cold.
Medication to prevent cold in your toddler:-
When you know that your toddler got infected from a cold, you can give your toddler some medicines such as panadol(paracetamol). Other syrups are also provided to your toddler, which reduces cough, pain, and cold in your toddler. You can also use some ointment or cold-mist humidifier around the nose so that the toddler’s nose removes phlegm or other fluid if your toddler has influenza-like symptoms. You can also give some watery fluid and add some honey or other materials to reduce the cold symptoms in your baby or toddler.

When you are going to the doctor to treat your toddler, the doctor examines your toddler, and if your toddler has a cold, then the doctor must inject some vaccines to prevent your toddler from cold.
